Who should I contact with questions about my utility bill?

Why was it neccesary to send out estimated utility bills in the summer of 2022?

Beginning in June, the city experienced a network computer breach that prevented access to the utility billing system and the customer usage data. As a result, we were unable to send out bills, update meter readings, or access user history.

Why get an estimated bill instead of no bill at all?

Customers’ financial burden was lessened by the distribution of estimated bills, which spared them from having to pay for several months of service at once.

What if I think I was overcharged on my estimated bill?

Any payments in excess of what you actually used will be credited to your account and applied to your subsequent bill once your actual usage has been determined.

What if my usage is determined to be higher and I was undercharged on my estimated bill?

In the event that the City of Alexandria produces its own energy, why do we still purchase it from CLECO?

The city can and does generate its own energy when doing so is more cost-effective than purchasing it from MISO, an independent, non-profit organization whose members are in charge of running the power grid through 15 states and into the Canadian province of Manitoba. The City and Cleco have a 35 MW contract, and the City only buys energy when Cleco’s predicted price is less expensive than MISO’s. The City rarely buys from Cleco because their prices are typically higher than the MISO market price.

How much time does it take to fix a damaged power pole?

Approximately 2. 5–12 hours, depending on the degree of the damage and the amount of debris nearby. This could require between 3-8 linemen.

What distinguishes a boil order from a boil advisory?

When a water source is turned off or when the pressure drops below 20 psi, a boil advisory is issued.
