The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) provides the City of McKinney with treated water. We carry out and submit all tests in accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) specifications once the treated water has entered the McKinney water supply system. We are proud to report a Superior rating
NTMWD has access to five surface water sources through State of Texas permits that grant it water supply rights. Currently, NTMWD supplies water to approximately 17 million people across 10 countiesBy 2070, the population in its service area is anticipated to more than double.
Through 2070, NTMWD identified a number of strategies and projects, including conservation and the construction of a new reservoir in Fannin County called Bois d’Arc Lake, to continue meeting the treated drinking water needs of the service area.If the anticipated growth occurs, a new reservoir cannot, by itself, satisfy the region’s needs over the next 50 years.
In comparison to other potential solutions, conservation is the most cost-effective water supply strategy, enabling NTMWD to increase current water supplies without depleting them.
