Customers of Decatur Utilities (DU) receive a monthly bill for utility services used over the course of about 30 days. Dates of service are clearly displayed on the billing statement. View a sample bill HERE.

Any amount not paid by the due date indicated on the bill is subject to a late fee. In order to pay for current charges, customers have 14 days after the due date. If payments are not received after 14 days, accounts may be closed.

Re-connection fees:

DU’s levelized payment program, Budget Billing, averages your monthly bills based on your usage over the previous 12 months. You have to use the DU system for 12 months in a row. For customers to be eligible for budget billing, they must currently have a bank draft agreement. Download form HERE and return to our Customer Service Department.

If you enroll in Bank Draft, your bill amount will be automatically deducted from your checking or savings account on the due date of each month. Download form HERE and return to our Customer Service Department.

Please fill out and return a Medical Hardship form if someone you know is on life support or another form of assistance that depends on electricity to keep them alive so that we can add their home to our medical priority list. In the event of a power outage, power lines serving people on the Medical Priority List will be prioritized. A portion of the form must be filled out by a doctor, and a new form must be submitted annually in order for our records to be up-to-date.

The waste water portion of your bill will be capped off during the summer, starting in April and continuing through September billing, based on your typical usage during the winter. DU accounts for the fact that residential customers irrigate lawns and flowers, fill swimming pools, wash cars, etc.
