The City of Lacey is collaborating with Paymentus, an electronic billing platform, to create a new online payment portal that residents can use to conveniently pay their utility bills.
Lisa Shildt, Partner Solutions Manager at Paymentus, demonstrated the proposed portal at yesterday’s Lacey Utilities Committee meeting.
Shildt covered a number of methods, such as emails and even text messages, that a customer could use to be reminded of their bills and pay them through the portal.
Shildt explained that residents who are currently enrolled in the current system would have to re-register for the Paymentus platform in order to use the new system.
She continued, “With some of our customers, we may have a tendency to place a note or somewhere within the system, perhaps the landing page, just to remind customers that if they would like to participate in autopay, they would have to sign up again.”
Concerned about the platforms’ digital security, councilmember Carolyn Cox emphasized the value of privacy when it comes to credit card numbers and other personal information.
Shildt insisted that the system complies with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, adding that all customer data is encrypted.
Utility Billing Supervisor Carol Hellickson stated that although they initially intended to launch the platform by the end of June, they are exploring options to delay that because they would like more time to inform the customers of the transition.
