Whats a CVV Code?

On the back of debit/credit cards, there is a three- or four-digit security code called the CVV code that helps prevent credit card fraud. Visa calls this security code a Card Verification Value (CVV). Discover refers to it as a Card ID (CID), while MasterCard refers to it as a Card Validation Code (CVC).
