Will my utility rates change if I have a solar power system?

Even with solar, you’ll probably still have a utility bill, and those rates could change as your utility provider updates them. But using a solar energy system will cut down on how much energy you get from the utility, minimizing the effects of rising utility rates. Learn more about your utility bill after solar.

What happens if I sell my home and have a loan for my solar system?

You are in a good position if you own your solar system and are selling your house. According to studies, houses with solar panels sell more quickly and for a higher price than houses without them. You can work with your lender to pay off the loan with the sale of the house and transfer the paid-off system to the new homeowner since a solar loan has no prepayment penalties. Contacting the lender to let them know you intend to sell the house would be the first step. We will assist in the system’s ownership transfer to the new homeowner once the system’s payoff has been arranged. Learn more about real estate transactions and solar agreement transfers.

What is a UCC-1 fixture filing? Is it a Lien?

A public declaration of our interest in the solar energy system is the UCC-1. It is not a lien on your home. It is a “financing statement” proving Tesla owns the financed or leased solar equipment and/or has a financial interest in it. In order to speak with us on your behalf, Tesla advises having your lender or refinance company call Tesla directly. Together with our agent, our group will attempt to temporarily remove the UCC-1 filing. We then reinstate the fixture filing for all financed systems after your refinance is complete.

Since the ACH discount is only applied when AutoPay is enabled, the Non-ACH line item that appeared on your invoice is a sign that you are not getting it. Our contracts are priced based on the presumption that you will authorize recurring payments through automatic withdrawal. The line item will appear on the invoice to remove the discount from your pricing if you choose not to sign up, making you ineligible for the discount. Your invoiced amount will be updated in accordance with your contract whether you choose to enroll in or cancel AutoPay at any time.

What do I need to do to purchase my system at the 5-year anniversary? (Power Purchase Agreement Only)

As stated in your PPA, you may purchase the system at particular points during the term. You can request to purchase the system once every year on this anniversary date, or whenever you like in the future if you sell your house. The first date of purchase eligibility is five years after the date your system was granted “Permission to Operate.” When we receive notice from you one to three months prior to the anniversary of your intent to purchase, we will give you the purchase price specified in your PPA.

After five years of operation, some contracts give you the choice to purchase your solar system. Please review the eligibility requirements and procedure for purchasing your system in your Energy Products Order Agreement. Please get in touch with your loan provider to repay your current solar loan.

Customers who pay cash or take out a solar loan to buy a system may be qualified for any available federal and state incentives. Please contact a qualified tax advisor if you require help claiming the federal tax credit. Tesla does not guarantee individual eligibility for tax credits or incentives or offer advice in this regard.

Log into your Tesla Account and choose “Manage” next to your Tesla Energy product to access your billing portal. Once you are logged in, you can view your system’s billing information, activate autopay, and sign up for paperless billing.

Does Tesla submit my payment history to credit reporting agencies?

Tesla is permitted to share your payment history with credit bureaus. For information on credit reporting, see your Energy Products Order Agreement in your Tesla Account.

A fixed, yearly increase or decrease to your monthly payment is a feature of some Energy Product Order Agreements. See the Monthly Payments schedule in your Energy Products Order Agreement to review annual changes. The Subscription Home Improvement Agreement states that subscription monthly payments are subject to change.

Can I set up autopay through my bank to receive the ACH discount?

No. Although managing your finances electronically with automatic bill payment through your bank is convenient, Tesla still receives payment in the form of a physical check. You must set up autopay by providing the routing and account information for your checking or savings account in order to be eligible for the ACH (automated clearing house) discount. To manage your preferences for automatic payments, sign into your Tesla Account.

Can I sign up for autopay with a credit card?

No. Automatic payments must be processed through Automated Clearing House (ACH) and cannot be set up using a credit or debit card. A federally regulated electronic network called ACH orchestrates bank-to-bank transactions and makes sure that all financial information is kept private, secure, and confidential. You can set up automatic payments to Tesla through ACH through your checking or savings account, and these payments are eligible for an automatic payment discount.

You have the choice to use your credit or debit card to make a one-time payment in place of or in addition to your regular monthly automatic payment. Any additional funds you provide will carry over and be used to reduce your monthly obligations.

Note: To stop automatic payments, a credit or debit card payment must be made at least two business days prior to the draft date. Both payments will be processed if you set up a one-time payment less than two days before the draft date.

By clicking “Manage” next to your Tesla Energy product in the billing portal of your Tesla Account, you can view your invoices and payment history. When logged in, you can change your billing preferences and see more billing information.

If your system doesn’t meet the anticipated performance criteria, the Performance Guarantee included in some Energy Products Order Agreements will give you financial relief. Tesla will cooperate with you to address the problems causing your system’s underperformance, and you will be given a credit or payment in accordance with the calculation detailed in your agreement.

In the event that your system is unable to produce enough energy for an extended period of time, some contracts also include a production warranty. Customers must always have their system properly connected to their Tesla monitoring device in order for this production warranty to be valid.

If you want to know which Performance Guarantees or warranties come with your system, check your Energy Products Order Agreement. Tesla will handle everything on your behalf if you need to submit a warranty claim, as specified in your agreement.

I bought a home with Tesla Solar — when will I receive my first bill?

After the home’s escrow has closed, you will get your first monthly bill in two billing cycles. You can access the billing portal to start managing your billing information, payment and invoice preferences once the Tesla Energy product has been registered to your Tesla Account.
